The parental PIN and adult content Print

  • 0

Adult groups and categories are shown with a padlock instead of being removed, so your channel list still looks the size it really is, and they open once the PIN is entered. The lock is always on. There is no setting that switches it off.

Which PIN

You do not have to set anything up for the lock to work. Three codes can be right, and the first one that applies is the one the app asks for:

  1. A PIN you set yourself, in Settings → Parental control → Set PIN. This replaces the two below — once you have your own, the others stop working.
  2. The code your provider has on your line, where they publish it to the app.
  3. 0000, the usual factory code, when neither of the above applies.

So on a device nobody has configured, the code is 0000 unless your provider has set something else on your account. If you do not know which it is, try 0000 first, then ask your provider for the parental code on your subscription.

Set your own PIN if the lock matters to you. 0000 is published and widely known — it is there so the lock works out of the box, not because it is hard to guess. It takes a moment to replace, and nothing else does the job for you.

Remember unlock

This switch decides how long an unlock lasts, and the difference matters:

  • Off (the default) — a real parental lock. The unlock lasts until the app closes, and the PIN is asked again next time it opens.
  • On — the PIN is asked once and then not again, restarts included. Convenient, but be clear about what it is: after the first unlock the lock is off until someone turns it back on. It stops a first-time viewer, not a returning one.

Lock again puts the padlocks back immediately, whichever setting you use. Setting or changing the PIN also re-locks.

If you have set your own PIN and want to go back

Use the line's code gives up the PIN you chose and goes back to your provider's code, or 0000. It does not unlock anything and it does not switch parental control off — there is simply a different code from then on.

The lock covers Favourites too

Adult channels and films you have saved, and anything adult you had part-watched, stay out of Favourites and Continue watching until the PIN is entered. One thing to know: something you favourited with an older version of the app was saved before it kept a record of this, so unless its own title gives it away it may still show. Favourite it again, or remove it, and it is recorded properly.

Hiding it altogether

The separate Hide adult content switch removes the material from every list entirely and needs no PIN. Use that if you would rather it were simply not there.
